A Small Announcement

If you have spent time on the forums long enough, you'll notice a couple bots here and there will make posts. Just report them immediately through the forum's 'Report to moderator' button if you see one of these. They'll be located right below the person's signiture of actual post (I believe, one of the two.) on the right corner.

Where, and how?
On the bottom of the post, - the right corner. Click that with your reason. If they aren't avaliable notify staff through Skype, Discord, or good ol' fashion Minecraft chat itself.

>>> The Report Button :

How do I tell it's a bot/spam?
Odd jumbled words.. it's in another language, it is completely out of context..
possibly links you to a fishy website. These are all clues as to how it may be a bot. Report it anyway, if unsure.

> Help! My computer's in danger! <
Stay calm. If you have an anti-virus/malware, scan your computer. DO NOT RESTART.
That'll make things much worse. Change your passwords and sensitive information, they could be in another's hands now. **If you do not have an anti-virus/malware, run Windows Defender (If you have Windows)... most likely it won't detect anything, or will be blocked.. but try it. Go online and attempt to download MalwareBytes or Avast (Just a couple examples.. programs I prefer.) And work from there.

General tips:
  • Don't click fishy links. Scan download links beforehand at https://www.virustotal.com
  • Get an anti-virus.
  • Get a firewall.
  • Get an Ad-Blocker
  • Use Google Chrome. Google Chrome has a built in database that can detect harmful websites, and notify you beforehand. I believe some others do, but I'm not sure who exactly on the spot.
  • Have strong passwords. Avast can guide you on doing this.
  • Keep your Operating System up-to-date. Also, keep your programs up to date aswell.
  • And most of all, don't pass on anything dangerous.

Feel free to comment /valid/ well explained tips yourself, down below. From the videos above, you can click on other helpful videos to guide you along this process.

Hey Tree, could I ask you to rename this thread to something more specific such as
"For your online security: A warning about scam links"?

I've linked your thread in my forum signature for the time being, but I think it may be useful to pin this post for a bit too, atleast till enough people have seen it.

If you see a spam post do not post on it. If you see one PM me over discord with the link. Posting on it only makes it more visible and makes others click on it.

Life's like a box of chocolates, if you don't space it out well enough and plan it. It can be gone within a day.

What about Linux users

Linux is pretty damn hard to acquire malware or anything. Plus people who use Linux typically know what they are doing anyway. There isn't one set way for Linux.
